Waiting to start your diet on January 1st is a little different than waiting to book all of your doctor’s appointments, and here’s why.
Starting fresh in the New Year is always so refreshing. According to an article from shape.com written by Lauren Mazzo, 40% of people want to live a healthier lifestyle in the New Year, and 39.6% commit to losing weight.
Lauren says that if your goal for the New Year is to be healthy, you should start booking all of your appointments now rather than later. If you wait until January, you will be waiting much longer for an appointment (because that’s when everybody is doing it). November and December have the lowest scheduled appointments, so get callin’ in the holiday season!
Lauren says that an app called Zocdoc, which is an online health tool that helps people to schedule their doctor’s appointments, usually noticed a 120% increase in bookings on the first work day after the New Year!
An internal medicine specialist in NYC named Keri Peterson, M.D., says that “Before kicking off your health-related New Year’s resolutions and making any changes to your daily routine, it’s important to see your doctor to ensure you know where your health stands. Your doctor can confirm that your plan is right for you and suggest any additional lifestyle changes that may help you accomplish your goals.”
It’s important to see a doctor before you start all of these resolutions to make sure everything is healthy and the way it should be. If something is out of whack, you should know before you begin training for that marathon.
Getting into the doctor’s office before the New Year approaches means that you won’t have to wait for hours in the waiting room. Get it over with! Lauren also says in her article from shape.com that if you are under 40 years old and feeling healthy, you might not need to get that annual physical.
The New Year always brings on a sense of a new beginning, and it’s great to want to change your current life into a healthier one. Book those appointments now so that you’re sure to get in at a reasonable time, and you can be the best version of yourself possible! Best of luck to you and all of your health goals!
